Everest Fulfilling the dream
In 1952 Tenzing Norgay and Raymond Lambert came just 650 ft from making world history. The summit of Everest was within reach but wild storms adn unbearable cold drove them down.
They had become the closest of friends and dreamed of making the summit together-becoming the first men in history to do so. But it was not to be. The following year on May 29, Tenzing Norgay Shrepa and Edmund Hillary closed the chapter on Everest.
The quest for Tenzing and Lambert was over-until 2002. In this year Yves Lambert, son of Raymond, and Tashi Tenzing, grandson of Tenzing Norgay attempted Everest together-for their forebears as much as for themselves. This time the dream was fulfilled and on May 16 Tashi Tenzing and Yeve Lambert at 8 am stood on the summit of Mt. Everest.
This historic moment was captured and filmed by Bernard Robert-Charrue and Stephane Schaffter, and narrated by Tashi Tenzing.
Tenzing Norgay and the Sherpas of Everest
I am a Sherpa, a man of the mountains of the eastern Himalaya. I am the grandson of that most renowned of all Sherpas, Tenzing Norgay – man of Everest, Tiger of the Snows. I am proud of my heritage and I am proud of my people and draw immeasurable strength from that of my family and Tibetan ancestry.
